Winning work on trust, not price

When three quotes look similar, price wins by default. The way out is to give the customer something else to compare.

Show your standard before you show your price

  • Lead with your Builder Standard Score and what it covers
  • Include your written contract and complaints procedure with the quote
  • Show a Project Passport from a comparable completed job
  • Explain your stage payments and the evidence supplied at each one
  • Provide insurance certificates without being asked

Make the paperwork part of the pitch

Documentation is usually treated as an internal chore. Presented well, it is a differentiator: it tells a customer that the project will be run, not just built.

Be findable and checkable

Customers increasingly verify before they hire. A Builder Standard ID that a homeowner can look up gives them a way to confirm your status independently of your own website.

Find your gaps in two minutes

The free Builder Standard Assessment scores you out of 100 across contracts, payments, records, customer care and insurance, then shows exactly where you are losing marks. If documents or processes are missing, the £295 Professional Standards Audit helps you compile them.

This guidance is general information, not legal advice. Builder Standard is an independent platform and is not a government body, statutory regulator or government-endorsed scheme, and it cannot register or certify contractors for any government scheme.
